T.E.A.C.H Transitional Home is a temporary housing facility for homeless women and children, which provides mentoring, life skills, and a home environment.
About The Facility
The two-story, newly renovated home is located at 606 South Lee Street, Valdosta, Ga. The home was built by its original owner, Mr. Thomas Hudson, in 1906 and is known as the “Hudson House”. This beautiful antebellum-style home has served as a beacon of light within the Black community for over 119 years. Mr. Hudson was known for his entrepreneurship, community activism, and generosity. He was a visionary for low-income housing, which helped lead to “Hudson-Dockett Housing” that still provides services for housing within our community today. His wife, Mrs. Emily Hudson, worked as a Social Worker for the Valdosta City School District. She was best known for her dedication to families and children; fondly remembered for providing clothing and food to needy families from the trunk of her car.
The home now “TEACH Transitional Home” has (8) bedrooms in which the largest 6 are used for residential living, (1) for office space, and (1) for maintenance of a closet for residents. There is one full-size bathroom on the first floor and a full-size bathroom area for the second floor (shower only). The home has a large multipurpose area with a kitchen and dining area on the first floor. A room has been added to serve as a food pantry for residents’ families. There is a large wrap-around porch with an ample yard for parking and small group activities.
